Col SteelAs the Chairman of Governors of Tomlinscote School & Sixth Form College, I am proud to be so closely associated with a dynamic and innovative team which is led by the Principal Mr Tony Ryles. For years now, Tomlinscote has not just been known for its academic excellence and high standards of behaviour and appearance, but has also provided students with a caring community, a listening ear and a wonderful stepping stone for coping with a complex and dynamic world. Any visitor to the school could not help but be impressed by the warm welcome they receive from both staff and students alike.

The task of the Governing Body is to take responsibility for raising school standards through three key roles. Firstly by setting the strategic direction, then ensuring accountability and finally by monitoring and evaluating school performance. The Principal is  of course responsible for day-to-day management of the school, with the Governing Body acting as a "critical friend", supporting his work and the work of other staff.

Each year brings new challenges and added dimensions to both the school curriculum and work of the staff and governors. As a result of far reaching government initiatives and schools forging links with business , trade and commerce, we are now entering an exciting and long awaited development in Vocational Education which is designed to meet the needs of an ever changing society. We must ensure that every effort is put in to supporting the school in this new venture, whilst at the same time maintaining a strong foothold in the traditional routeways which have always been a hallmark of our success.

I would ask that all visitors to this website; including prospective teachers and parents as well as those of you who are already fortunate enough to be associated with Tomlinscote; take a few minutes to read through the wealth of information, facts, figures and articles from Newsline in order to gain a fuller understanding of the ethos and "esprit de corps" of which we are so proud.

On behalf of the Governing Body, and as we enter this new era, I would like to take this opportunity of wishing the Principal, staff and students every success in their ventures and I look forward to working with you over the coming years.
