Welcome to Tomlinscote Sixth Form College.

Thank you for your interest in our college and for considering us an option for your post-16 educational needs as you decide upon where to study next year.

We are a thriving college that offers strong personalised support to our students and a long standing track record of excellent exam performance. We have a well earned reputation for excellent teaching and in 2008 we celebrated a glowing Ofsted report. In August 2009 our Year 13 students achieved some impressive results at A level, with 56% of all entries achieving either an A or B grade and a 99% overall pass rate.

One of our great strengths is that as a school-based Sixth Form, we are large enough to offer a wide range of courses but small enough so that students can thrive in a supportive and friendly environment that has a culture of high expectations and ambition.

In 2010 we will once again be offering a diverse range of A-levels with more modern subjects like Photography, Law, Dance, Psychology and Music Technology sitting alongside the more traditional A-level choices.

We will also be offering a choice of Specialised Diplomas as well as a number of other Vocational courses. These include a highly successful FA accredited Football Coaching course, Level 2 & 3 courses in Beauty Therapy (in our own professional salon) and Level 2 & 3 courses in Child Care.

As a Specialist Language College, we offer exceptional opportunities for linguists. The College has a well-established exchange programme, with contacts in France, Spain, Germany and Japan who help students benefit from work experience overseas. Tomlinscote students also benefit from a plethora of academic and cultural visits. Trips to New York (Business Studies & Economics) and the annual ski trip are just two examples of these.

Our students have enjoyed great success when applying to Oxford and Cambridge in recent years and our special tutorial programme designed for students aiming to study the most competitive courses at University helps to support student applications to these institutions as well as those applying for degrees in subjects such as Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry and Law.

Away from the classroom, our Sixth Form students have the opportunity to involve themselves in many fun-filled activities which make the college a fantastic place to study.  One of these is our Rag Week, which is fast developing a ‘cult status’, with Sixth Form students taking the lead in organising and participating in a series of whole school fun events.

This year (2009), we introduced the Freshers' Fortnight to supplement our induction programme for new Sixth Form students. This currently includes a Taster Week and Summer BBQ in July and a formal Induction Day on the first day of term in September.  It is these initiatives which explain why Ofsted recently commented that our integration of new students in to the sixth form is "outstanding". In our opinion this is a really important aspect when deciding on where to study after Year 11. It is also one of the reasons why we have a very strong sense of community in the sixth form Common Room, which is without doubt one of our greatest strengths as a sixth form college.

Students will be pleased to know that we have an elected Sixth Form Students Union led by two Student Presidents, who ensure that all social tastes are catered for in our Sixth Form.  Also, in October 2008 our Sixth Form Common Room was refurbished and it now contains amongst other things a pool table, 50’ flat screen TV, microwave, a variety of vending machines and a host of comfy sofas.

We look forward to speaking with you further about your future in our sixth form.

Finally, we believe this phrase sums up our college:

‘We are large enough to give you the choices that you want, but small enough so you feel properly supported and a valued member of our sixth form community’.

Be part of it.
